Hello Internet! Meet My First Oil Painting, Bob.
I grew up reading classic literature. The heroines I worshiped were multi-talented; from painting, drawing, playing piano, writing, singing, and dancing, to witty critiquing or charming elusive lovers. I'm by no means an expert at any of these, but I dabble in a bit of everything, and I learn something new every day.
This painting is a work in progress. It's my first oil painting, and I was definitely inspired by the wonderful Bob Ross. I forgot to add some "happy little clouds" though. Maybe next time.
All of what you see was done when the paint was still wet. I started by laying down a thin layer of white paint on the entire canvas, then I slowly blended in the background colors for the sunset and the water. Next, I used a painting knife to create the outline of the mountains, which I then blended into the white paint. After that, I started adding in some textured hills and background trees, followed by the trees up front and then the detail in the water.
The paint dried before I could really finish it, so I'll have to use a different technique to add anything in the future. I also need to buy better painting supplies and more paint. This is not a particularly cheap hobby.
